project 2a: introduction to site analysis + observation deck @ cape rachado
Introduction to Site Analysis
Students are separated into 2 big groups and required to conduct a site analysis in Cape Rachado. We are required to record and analysis data that covers below topics:
- Site plan (Site section, Site Boundaries, North Point, Contours)
- Existing Structure (Significant Architectural Language/Feature , Adjacent building/structure building to remain/demolish)
-Landscape (Natural features, Soil Condition, Surface Drainage, Existing vegetation)
-Climatic Studies (Sun path, wind direction, rain)
-Circulation pattern (pedestrian, vehicular)
- Views and Vistas (Panoramic /spot in, out, approaching)
- Activities (category -dry/wet, zoning, noise)
- Case Studies (Grand Canyon Skywalk, Arizona + Pinohuacho observation deck, Chile)
project 2b: retreat house @ cape rachado, port dickson
After visited Cape Rachado and finished the site inverstigation and ‘naturescanning’ to initiate the preliminary conceptual approach of the observation deck, we are required to further develop your project 2A into a retreat house. This retreat house must function as habitable architectural spaces to enable the activity associated with living, dining, showering, cooking, storage and such within the built up space of 150 m2. The relationship between the design and the context is also important in making the retreat unique to its landscape and activity.
We are required to work as individual and produce sketches, mock-up models, diagrammatic explanation of the composition of space and form (which explains how the design is responding to the character and context), site analysis of the physical context (site plan, site section, site elevation – Scale of 1:500) and also a full set of architectural drawings.
I was given an adventurous yogi as my client.
architectural design studio II
project 1: famous people, familiar faces -diagrammatic abstraction
We are required to work in a group of 5 and each group will be given a master architect and one of their masterpiece as our research topic. We will need to produce a set of drawings and investigate and formulate our findings into a set of 10 analysis diagrams and 10 diagrammatic models. The models should be precise and informative to express the analysis of the ideas hidden in the project assigned. The analysis is based on, but not limited to the following:
- organization of form
- organization of space
- circulation and paths-space relationship
- spatial hierarchies
- context
- elements

Observation Deck @ Cape Rachado
In group of 2, we will need to design an observation deck with maximum volume of 30m3 that serve for observation. It should includes other activities like meditation, relaxation and furniture should be incorporate into the observation deck. The design of the observation deck should correspond to the site that we have chosen and adequate access, circulation and fenestration are mandatory.
We are required to submit a site analysis on A3 board, a series of diagrams showing the space and form, a set of drawings and models including 3 process models and 1 final model.
