project 2: center for the elderly
The project calls for a design of an elderly center in a suburban area with some complexity that includes the complexity of site topography and vegetation and socio-cultural events. Students are required to provide full design proposal incorporating precedent study and site analysis at appropriate level of presentation. It explores design solutions that reduce environmental impact utilizing clustered spatial typology and passive energy. The design should contribute to and merge harmoniously with nature and site, and provide the best experiences for the users.
The proposed site is located in Taman Kanagapuram, along the Old Klang Road, Selangor, surrounded by housing estates, apartments, religious facilities and low rise commercials. Work under the same tutorial group, students will need to submit a site analysis.

project 1: a personal space
Project 1 deals with user experience that requires students to design a personal space which is intended for a specific user based on an in-depth study of the user's need. It is to develop awareness of environmental sustainability in a design and student's ability to meet the imperative and inter-related social needs. In addition, the project will prepare students to programmatic requirements of specific group of users for Project 2.
In a group of 3, students are to design an outdoor personal space that is flexible, lightweight as well as safe with all mechanisms being simple and easy to operate, Materials for its construction are from sustainable sources and weather proof. It is of multipurpose; must be able to accommodate/support a user's activities which include either seating, leaning or resting, but not limited to that.
We paid visit to an old folks home- Little Sisters of The Poor, which located in Cheras. Among all the old folks, we selected Auntie Marie as our client.
After the understanding of the site, students are required to propose a 800 sq.m. elderly community centre. The mixed-used building should covered the facilities: entry, lobby, exit, lounge, cafe, locker, entertainment & social space, recreation & exercise space, library & reading rooms, meditation room, caretaker office, staff area and outdoor spaces. Besides that, students will also need to take the disabled accessibility as consideration.
