project 1: preliminary investigation of historical building

Students are required to study and produce a preliminary investigation report of a historical building. The report must comprise information of the owner, historical and social background, and the objection for conservation. The report is to be accompanied with a set of measured drawings. This project will expose students to first stage of building conservation framework.

Work as a class, we get to visit Gedung Raja Abdullah for Project 1. Located in Klang, Gedung Raja Abdullah was built by Raja Abdullah in 1857 which served as the warehouse and living spaces for Raja Abdullah and his family. The warehouse was later on used as British administrative office and police headquarter. In 1970, a new police headquarter was built beside the warehouse and it has transformed into a museum. Gedung Raja Abdullah is listed as one of the conservation building in the Jabatan Warisan Negara (National Heritage Department) listings.
